’12 Years A Slave’ Director Understands Safe Is Risky

Director Steve Mcqueen

Director Steve McQueen made BOLD statements to earn vocation:

“I’m fed up with the art world, to be honest. It doesn’t go much further than its own tail, and it gets boring.” – Steve Mcqueen

McQueen originally enrolled at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts to pursue his passion for the arts, but quit just three months in the school’s film program because he believed his classes to have emphasized on technique rather than substance.

Steve understands that being safe is risky and sometimes in order to get where you need, you gotta have the guts and take action based on your beliefs. He is the poster model for being different and remaining true to yourself regardless of the systems before him or the industry standards. It’s fair to say, Steve McQueen paved his own way to the success he was clearly entitled to.

“I’m a filmmaker, so I always think: When is the breaking point? Sometimes you’ve got to go beyond the breaking point, and then you catch it.”
