10 Brilliant David Suzuki Quotes To Empower Your Purpose

At a time when issues of climate change are at the forefront of political discourse, with denial & acceptance in equal measure, Vancouver has produced a world leader & renowned mind on these issues. That man is David Suzuki. He was born on March 24, 1936. A third generation Japanese-Canadian born in Vancouver, the Suzuki family was interned in British Columbia during the Second World War. Suzuki & his family were forced to move around Canada, ending up in London, Ontario in his late teens. He studied genealogy at Amherst College in Massachusetts & got his Ph.D. in zoology from the university of Chicago.

A man who has done so much in his life that he deserves much more time & attention than I’ve afforded him but he is a lifelong academic who has been a professor at the University of British Columbia, hosted the Nature of Things on CBC television & is one of the world’s most influential people on issues of climate change. A man who loves the natural beauty we are blessed to live in, & the world we take for granted, David Suzuki has used his intellect & passion to help the planet. Here are ten quotes from Canada’s greatest living son.

“We have much to learn by studying nature and taking the time to tease out its secrets.” – David Suzuki

“Think about a seed. Once it lands, it’s stuck. It can’t move to find better soil, moisture or sunlight. It’s able to create every part of itself to grow and reproduce with the help of air, water and sun.” – David Suzuki

“We’re in a giant car heading towards a brick wall and everyone’s arguing over where they’re going to sit.” – David Suzuki

“The human brain now holds the key to our future. We have to recall the image of the planet from outer space: a single entity in which air, water, and continents are interconnected. That is our home.” – David Suzuki

“The human brain had a vast memory storage. It made us curious and very creative. Those were the characteristics that gave us an advantage – curiosity, creativity and memory. And that brain did something very special. It invented an idea called ‘the future.'” – David Suzuki

“The future doesn’t exist. The only thing that exists is now and our memory of what happened in the past. But because we invented the idea of a future, we’re the only animal that realized we can affect the future by what we do today.” – David Suzuki

“Environmentalism isn’t a discipline or specialty. It’s a way of seeing our place in the world. And we need everybody to see the world that way. Don’t think ‘In order to make a difference I have to become an environmentalist.'” – David Suzuki

“I can’t imagine anything more important than air, water, soil, energy and biodiversity. These are the things that keep us alive.” – David Suzuki

“In the environmental movement, every time you lose a battle it’s for good, but our victories always seem to be temporary and we keep fighting them over and over again.” – David Suzuki

“If we pollute the air, water and soil that keep us alive and well, and destroy the biodiversity that allows natural systems to function, no amount of money will save us.” – David Suzuki

Bonus David Suzuki Quote:

“Change is never easy, and it often creates discord, but when people come together for the good of humanity and the Earth, we can accomplish great things.”
