Usain Bolt’s Relentless Work Ethic & Patient Outlook Ensures Success

Usain Bolt is perhaps best known for his legendary outing at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. In the 100-meter dash Bolt broke the world record, running an astounding 9.69 seconds, forever changing our perception and expectation of how fast a human being can run. However, Bolt wasn’t finished and went on to win the gold medal in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 19.30 seconds and becoming the first winner of both the 100 and 200-meter events since Carl Lewis in 1984.

After such a spectacular showing, the world took notice every time Usain took to the track. With charisma and flair, Bolt won event after event, leaving no doubt as to who the top sprinter in the world was. By the 2012 Olympics it was not a matter of who would win, but rather how fast Bolt would win the races. Once again, on the biggest stage, Bolt established a new Olympic record for the 100-meter dash at 9.63 seconds and came within two one-hundredths of a second from beating his 200-meter Olympic record.

“I am now a legend. I am also the greatest athlete to live.” – Usain Bolt

To perform astounding feats, one must have an astounding amount of self-belief. Oftentimes, we hear about the importance of having self-confidence and self-esteem, Bolt defines why this is the case. Usain epitomizes the level of self-assuredness that should be displayed always, not only during times of competition. Bolt is perhaps equally known for his theatrical displays before and after his races, such displays are the result of an unshakable belief in his ability.

As a master of his craft, Bolt knows the importance of combining relentless training, while keeping patient and understanding that the results will come. This attitude would explain his jovial nature before races. Trusting both his training and ability, while maintaining a relaxed yet competitive outlook has resulted into consistently spectacular performances. He’s also unashamed and unabashed by his immense talent and passion. In fact, he’s cultivated his raw talent to a world class level and therefore, expects, demands, and commands greatness.

“Worrying gets you nowhere. If you turn up worrying about how you’re going to perorm, you’ve already lost. Train hard, turn up, run your best and the rest will take care of itself.” – Usain Bolt

Moreover, Usain Bolt teaches us that we must commit to our passion and must work on our craft to cultivate talent. We must maintain a high degree of belief and trust the process, rather than the outcome. Although results are important, they serve as the bigger picture. However, it is the finer details that compose the bigger picture and if you focus on these finer details, you will undoubtedly accomplish greatness.

“I know what I can do, so I never doubt myself.” – Usain Bolt
