“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage” – Anais Nin
Anais Nin was a French-Cuban diarist, writer, and author who passed from this life on January 14, 1977. She was bold in both belief and action. She spent most of her life in the United States where she became a well known writer and memoirist who was and still is best known for her remarkable faith in the creative spirit of our sometimes stifled human capacity for creativity. She was overtly optimistic and courageous in her efforts to capture the human spirit!
Courage comes in many forms and appears and reappears in the writings of so many of the great authors. Anais Nin actually gave new meaning to the term in her exploration of humanity and our connectedness to one another.
Ask Yourself: What lessons can we learn and apply to our lives in relation to her quote referenced here and the hundreds of other quotes that were captured from her writings and reflections?
Let’s simply start with her lesson on courage. How is it that life shrinks or expands in proportion to our courage? It expands in the same way that opportunity either shrinks or expands.
Our willingness to either try or do something different can be likened to opening a door on new possibilities and potentially different results than we have previously attained. Our willingness to embrace and engage with a new idea or concept can be the subtle difference required to discovering a “new way.” Anytime we consider a different or new approach, our willingness and courage to follow through will be tested.
I can assure you from my own personal experience, that if you will but consider this philosophy of discovery, you will find new ideas and rewards in abundance. You will find your relationships growing and expanding, and the people you connect with will see you differently than in the past, and you will experience a level of engagement that is reserved for those who are willing to be bold and courageous in the exploration of new ideas and opportunities.
I won’t go so far as to say it’s magical, but it comes very close! Actually, after having taken a moment to both pause and reflect just now, I will commit instead and say, it is magical and here is why: Magical is an adjective describing something as beautiful or delightful in such a way as to seem removed from everyday life.
This approach is for those who would have “Life” expand in direct proportion to their courage. And by adopting this approach, you open your life to the realm of possibilities that exists only in the mind of someone prepared to experience magical results. In other words, very simply, you are ready and prepared to believe that it’s not only possible, but more importantly, possible for YOU!
Remember, “We don’t see things as they are. We see things as we are.” -Anais Nin
