“We must not be afraid to push boundaries; instead, we should leverage our science and our technology, together with our creativity and our curiosity, to solve the world’s problems.” – Jason Silva
Why do you suppose the author of this quote, Jason Silva would suggest that combining science & technology with creativity & curiosity would have us pushing boundaries? Perhaps, there exists an underlying false assumption in society that art and science don’t belong together and are best discussed in separate conversations.
Let’s dive in. Maybe it’s because they have been discussed together, but never with complete and total freedom and with synergy. Jason Silva, who is a true example of this new outlook was expressing this quote as an opportunity for a complete paradigm shift where there is no separation between art & science or creativity & technology. What if we simply let our natural curiosity flow and simply explore every new possibility with the same wonder that a child sees the universe. Perhaps logic and imagination are a beautiful combination that was a limiting belief in societies prior to us. Perhaps with a very open limitless mind we can begin to realize the potential when we infuse the two together.
For those of us with structured roles, or who have specific guidelines for how we achieve the metrics of whatever our work requires, it is easy to get caught up in a routine, or a specific way of accomplishing a required task or objective. What Jason Silva really seems to have figured out, is that it’s possible to both meet our required objectives, and find new ways to both support our new ideas and explore new opportunities.
When we give ourselves permission to open our minds to new ways and new possibilities, we can find ourselves coming up with ideas we may have never even previously considered. When we take down the walls of separation we falsely create in our minds and acknowledge that everything is somehow connected, we achieve a new level of awareness where connections that were previously hidden from us, just simply appear and we can actually see just how connected everything really is…
What false assumptions or limiting beliefs might be holding us hostage? Have you found yourself either in the past, or in the present at this particular moment, afraid to push boundaries and explore limits? One of the greatest limits once believed to be all controlling, was GRAVITY. And yet, sparked by the words of a phenomenal leader, boundaries were pushed, creativity and curiosity were given the priority they deserved and suddenly, an entire entourage of Scientists were given permission to explore “Infinite Possibilities.”
Here are a few of the words that served as a catalyst for science and technology to collide with curiosity and creativity:
“We shall send to the moon, some 240,000 miles away, a giant rocket, 300 feet tall, made of new metal alloys, some of which have not yet been invented, capable of standing heat and stresses, fitted together with the precision of the finest watch, on an untried mission, to an unknown celestial body, and then return it safely to earth at speeds over 25,000 miles per hour, and do all this and do it right before this decade is out, then we must be bold!!!” –John F. Kennedy
Our call to action is simple… We must not be afraid to look at things from a different perspective, or in a different light, or from another’s position, because we will only ever make major improvements, or major advances when we ultimately give ourselves permission to be both bold and brave. Embrace curiosity, embrace creativity, leverage science and the scientific method of being willing to fail to learn as a guiding principle for all that yet remains to be both discovered and explored…
