3 Lessons To Learn From Mariah Carey’s Success Story:

Mariah Carey Kept Her Mind Away From Negativity, And Focused Fully On Her Passions!

Her mother named her after a song called “They Call the Wind Mariah”. Mariah Carey shocked her mother when she imitated her operatic singing at just 2 years old and her singing lessons began at 4. At age 3, her parents divorced and her mother and siblings were left fairly poor with little security. Her mother, who was a music and vocals coach herself, would end up working many extra jobs to support the family. She was raised in a rough neighborhood full of racism, where the neighbors would do cruel things to their family such as set their car on fire, since Mariah’s family was half white, half black. However, she turned to music to occupy herself and keep focused on what can happen, rather than what was happening. Mariah consistently kept her mind off of the negativity and focused in on her desire to sing. Although failing her driving test 3 times and considering herself the world’s worst waitress, she decided to focus on what she was good at: an extreme talent for music. Her mother would teach her everything she knew about music. Mariah’s passion began to grow tremendously, and she would even leave her high school to work as a demo artist for recording studios nearby. Mariah Carey has said, looking hindsight “There’s never been anything else in my life that inspired me at all. It’s crazy, but I’ve always loved music and I’ve always known this was what I wanted to do. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a singer.”

Mariah Carey Set A Strong Intention, And Had The Self-Worth To Believe It Would Come True:

Mariah Carey has discussed a moment in her childhood which really defined her intention and level of worth. The fact she remembers every detail about the moment proves the belief was really powerful and reality would certainly serve its course. “I can remember when I told myself for the first time, “I’m going to be rich and famous”. I was about 5 or 6. I was in my mother’s car, an old green dirty car. My sister was there, too. She was humming; she was about 15, she had just gotten married because she was pregnant. We were on a supermarket parking lot, and I was looking at the wealthy people through the window; I told myself, “I am going to be a star and I’ll buy all these things for us”. Fast forward to the 90’s; she thanked her mother for her continuous support by purchasing her a new house. She pretended like they were just looking at the house, which was already filled with her mother’s belongings along with pictures framed on the wall. Mariah Carey claims this to be her most prized moment saying “It was the most incredible thing I’ve ever been able to do.”

Mariah Carey Was Bold, Took Risks, And Made Sacrifices:

Mariah Carey would spend a lot of time at home listening to music, and would skip school to work as a demo singer in local recording studios. This also gave her the chance to meet other musicians whom she worked with to create her demo tapes. Being bold, courageous and knowing what she wanted, She would take a leap of faith and move to Manhattan where she would make ends meet by working as a waitress, a hair sweeper in a salon, a coat check girl, and she would study cosmetology. At night she would write songs and actively pursue her music career. Mariah Carey admitted that she was fired from all of her jobs because of her focus on her singing career. Her sacrifices would go on to serve there course and she eventually became a background singer for Brand K, Starr. Taking another bold risk at a party involving big music execs, Mariah got her tape in the hands of future husband and president of Columbia Records Tommy Matola. Today, Mariah Carey still understands and applies the important concept of making daring sacrifices. She apparently returned to work just 6 months after giving birth to her twins. No wonder she became the most successful female singer-songwriter of all time!
