John D Rockefeller’s persona and image is an icon of financial wealth, he was known for wearing a top hat, walking around with a cane giving people dimes and quarters as he walked the streets (which at the time was a lot of money). Alongside giving people money, he founded 2 universities, the University of Chicago, and the Rockefeller University. It’s no coincidence that the man labelled as the richest ever soaring well over the hundred billions was also a person who gave back tremendously. Let us not forget either; he was from very humble beginnings. He took fond advice from a local priest who told him “make as much money as you can, then give as much of it away as you can”. Rockefeller is known to have given away half the money he obtained throughout his lifetime including many charities focused on the African-American projects.
“If your only goal is to become rich, you will never achieve it”
– John D Rockefeller
#MoralOfTheStory: Make money and then give it back with strong underlying purposes for what you believe in. Greed and selfishness are not the answer, but improving the world around you with the wealth you accumulate is the goal!
