Why Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Believes Faith Overcomes Depression

Dwayne Johnson discusses how he came over depression when he was 23. On Oprah’s Masterclass, The Rock opened up about how he went into deep depression after being cut from the Calgary Stampeders.

“I found that, with depression, one of the most important things you could realize is that you’re not alone, You’re not the first to go through it; you’re not going to be the last to go through it … I wish I had someone at that time who could just pull me aside and [say], ‘Hey, it’s gonna be OK. It’ll be OK.'”

The Rock became obsessed with cleaning because he felt it was the only thing he felt like he had control of when depressed, and would stay in his room daily. After 3 months, his football coach called him to come back, however, shockingly, young Rock decided not to take the opportunity. In fact, he said he felt in his gut it was time for something new, and this led to his professional wrestling career. His dad first thought the idea was going to ruin his life (as he too was a wrestler), however, decided to help train who is now known as one of the greatest WWE wrestlers of all time.
